Yes Waz, saw that. If they are solar panels they are very small, so perhaps deployed just to power up the data collection hardware mentioned in the ann.
By the way, if you go back a few CWE ann's. they had a similar sized buoy with upper solar panels all around used for ocean data testing over a period of months from memory, so I guess need a small power source for that. I'll try and track down that image and post it.
Not sure the buoy is any bigger as I see it - looks more like it has been fattened out with a perimeter protective rubber guard in case of boat strike ? Had that at Bunbury too.
IMHO use of the term "pod" could either mean absolutely nothing, or it might have been adopted to clarify the Protean format being in three separate sections, so strictly not a single (floating) buoy, or another possibility (might be way off ) is that now that the company has embarked on a process of international testing and verification, the term pod might be more relevant within the environmental/engineering discipline.
Anyways, just some Sunday night speculation on my part. Well done to the Bulldogs, and go Stormers.
