Talisman holds important meeting with Stanley Gas landowners.
TALISMAN, operator of the Stanley Gas Project in Western Province, has held a successful meeting with all key landowners in Kiunga on the way forward for the project.
Talisman’s team was led by its PNG Operations and Development Manager Mike Fox and PNG Community Affairs Manager Robin Moaina, with assistance from Miranda Murray, Commercial Adviser.
Talisman said it was pleased to bring together the landowner representatives under one roof for the first time since the Stanley Development Forum in May, to discuss issues of mutual benefit to all stakeholders in the Stanley Gas Project.
Talisman was pleased to note that the key landowners of the project welcomed Talisman as the new operator and were keen to see the project get off the ground as soon as practicable. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill also recently affirmed Talisman’s role as the operator of the project, which has a 25 year life span and is the first of its kind in Western Province.
During the meeting, Talisman outlined its early works program for the project and plans to conduct personnel skills and landowner company (lanco) capability assessments. Talisman intends to engage UK based Orion Group (Orion) and Port Moresby-based Institute of Banking and Business Management (IBBM) to conduct the assessments and to provide capacity building support to lancos where required.
Both Orion and IBBM are independent groups and their reports are required by the Operator in order to consider lancos for contracts for the Stanley development.
The landowner representatives from each of the PDL wellhead, buffer zone, pipeline, storage facility areas as well as women leaders, agreed and expressed satisfaction that Talisman is now the new operator.
One of Talisman’s partners in the project, Horizon Oil, was also represented at the meeting by Community Relations Manager Wellington Belawa and CR staff.
Wellhead landowner spokesman Dewanai Skunemof Dande 2 village, welcomed Talisman as the Operator and called for closer dialogue between all stakeholders in the project including the landowners to ensure that all stakeholders will benefit.
Talisman’s CR Manager (PNG) Robin Moaina agreed; open dialogue and respect are key goals in Talisman’s values worldwide and Talisman stands ready to work with the landowner groups.
Skunem also reminded his fellow landowner reps to be ‘reasonable, responsible and respectful’ when meeting with the developer and other stakeholders.
Talisman holds the majority interest in the Stanley project. The other partners include Horizon Oil of Australia and Mitsubishi Corporation and Osaka Gas of Japan.
