    I would rather buy $1,000 worth of shares in a penny dreadful company at $0.01 then getting 1/100 number of shares in the same company at $1

    Wow really? For me it would make no difference. You hold $1000 of shares no matter. What's important is the ability for the share price to grow and at the moment it can't as it's easily manipulated.
