Western Australian Government regulates natural gas prices for small use customers (consuming less than one terajoule per annum). The big gas users are power stations, aluminum refineries, process industries in Kwinana, BHP Billiton Mines and Power Stations. Now imagine the power of a monopoly over gas as Quadrant is the 3rd largest domestic supplier and Santos the biggest domestic supplier in WA. There is a strong chance that the WA government will try and stop this through the minister for mines and petroleum.
Quadrant's balance sheet as of Dec 2016 if anyone wants to run the numbers (Brent averaged $44 for the year).
