Have been a few of these this year

Ultimately, unless there is a consistent track record of profits/cash flows, it is just a punt on Management's story they are selling. And they are such great stocks to hype because of the supposed blue sky potential (if you believe Management's presentations, conference calls etc), just like the next mining or biotech stock, selling the blue sky potential.

It is when management inevitably disappoints (and they always do to some extent) then you realise you have been sucked in, and you realise how much you still have to learn in this game [my personal lesson on this, unfortunately not for the first time]
