"arguing over the definition of the word bid" – yep! And ordinarily I don't bother arguing over semantics.

The only reason I've engaged in this one is that some posters here are using the argument that Harbour "won't bid against itself" to say that Harbour won't increase their bid, claiming that "Harbour have no reason to increase". Clearly that's a wrong argument because Harbour have already increased their bid twice. So the phrase is meaningless in this context.

A good decision about when to buy or sell requires having the right expectations about what will happen. When meaningless phrases are used to create wrong expectations, people may make wrong decisions.

My irritatingly optimistic and naïve view is that Hotcopper is a place where we poor, under-resourced retail holders can confer, exchange views, and hopefully help each other arrive at good decisions.
