I'm not objecting to the term "bid" in itself. They are making a bid. They can increase their bid. They can withdraw their bid. All good.
I'm objecting to the phrase "bidding against themselves". It's quite meaningless and relates to a completely different context and type of negotiation. In the current situation the closest that Harbour might come to a "bid against themselves" would be if they made a bid, and then turned around and increased it without any response from Santos.
