Another crazy accounting term that is rife with confusion. Both term are, in essence, synonymous. Certain criteria such as "time" (long, Short) can change the meaning. Some statistical terms (debt to equity) use debt to mean ALL liabilities or obligations of an entity. Debt also includes accrued expenses. I consider them to be synonymous in amost all situations. You owe. Hope that helps the discussion and I'm sure someone else will have an alternate view. Therein Is the problem with the two terms.
