The ASX and ASIC may well consider that it is time that they are seen to be doing something serious considering the spotlight put on the Banks and the suggestion that those who should have been diligent in watching over what the Banks were doing, seemed to have been too willing to accept the word of the Banks. Therefore it is in the best interests of the regulatory authorities to at least make a show of using their powers to do a thorough job. If, in doing their job, they happen to turn up evidence of unethical or questionable practices which can be highlighted and perhaps brought before the courts then that will polish up their tarnished image. While we can all think of situations in the past where the ASX and ASIC have had situation that they have ended just slapping the offending company with a wet bus ticket we may find that there is a bit more back bone this time. The fact that this has been ongoing for many weeks now and seems likely that it will extend further yet shows a far more determined effort IMHO.
