I know I must be just a peasant in a regional area - but I don’t see how it’s good or fair ... the amount of ‘things ‘ ? , ? brokers hear in their circles of communications .,, and then communicate on to others? This is what you are saying ?
Normal shareholders hear nothing except what can glean in the media or trying to extensively sleuth via local media and online - and do lawfully rely on company updates .
( I even wonder if some of the information was rumour and innuendo that perhaps was fed to , or promoted through particular Broking houses and their channels last year ? Perhaps )
I do realise now that there was ‘smoke ‘ , became clear before Christmas that people in power and commitee had not behaved in true line of their duties - and definitely some reprehensible actions not for best of the country.
Many parochial decisions and leaders decisions have been taken in the SI .
I no longer have the rosy glasses on wrt the people of the Solomons. It is though their country , always respectfully believe - but the SI are extorting money and or money at discounts - to operate the country . (IMF included. Much wonderful support - so far squandered )
They still are very held back overall .
Leadership really must start to be of calibre to do what is best , even lawful right , and vaguely environmentally sound .
But I’ve gone into an aside . ( apologies )
So emotions still not settled within my self , with how the SI been operating . Believe in people way too much .
I still don’t like though , that people get access to privvy information ? What asx is doing or asking ? Wow .
Petty power operates, as it does in most systems - sad can be that people can forget what’s overall important , can like to be important and respected and that’s ok , even ‘in-the -know ‘ on things.
Unfortunate when behaviour reveals as loose cannon missives locally and divides good people - and I mean in SI likely .
They’ve got to grow forward from being stifled and insular mentality . Work together for good of all , bring in real accountability .
People haven’t got enough to do there .
Want and need industry to generate . Worthwhile employment .
At least Axiom and the key people there - have persevered , and give their all .
Trying still to be patient with a regime that has been riddled and corrupted with money and no respect for time .
Forget Australians being accused of - “she’ll be right mate “ — this is the Solomon Islands today! more . Addition of also a few murky crims - acting for their own self- interests , mixed in .
The country - protesth too much — IMO .
* There is no excuse for still being 70% reliant on Logging . Felled native precious trees - still exported not even in dressed -timber form or processed locally into higher value exports .
Logging is the main employment field in the SI , still today .
** This is Unsustainable- nearly totally .
And is recognised that this MUST stop .., yet it continues .
** Imagination for better ways is very lacking Decent vision and leadership within for best direction is lacking . Fair statement? Very sad .
Isabel Nickel projects , held back in the Solomon Islands for a generation , they had also suffered occupation and terrible decimation during World War 2 earlier in the century .
Here , still they’ve stimmied every positive step .
I don’t understand how people have not been truly called to answer , where there seems to have been great deceit - individuals would be imprisoned anywhere else in the world for similar . Whacking big sticks never helpful but it does defy understanding.
I always sincerely felt they were trying. That there were wonderful people , good hearts . Etc . I’m sure there are .
Very glad at least all is being questioned , want full transparency , though much we never know . I do trust that the company is doing their best , and has sought to conduct in full legal and ethical manner always .
The elections are now not far away.
They still have oil spill damage- caused by the company who inexplicably have been handed best of Kolosori tenement , who are not a mining company and tenements granted seemingly out of the blue .
Mines ministry perhaps complicit . Reports . Huge money promised to local owners , and most likely given and certainly in kind with business class airfares to boot , for the key mining ministry personnel .
This information is all available in the public domain - and media been rife regarding .
NZ called for dismissal of the Mines Minister.
Local people may not be hugest concern for them but it is critical for a better functioning future for them as a Nation .
On top of all - the locals think -maybe they can just ask foreigners to come , and be tourists to the SI . Bring in money and income for them .
Oh sorry about the Rennel Is. oil disaster - Thankyou Aussies for coming again , you can help us by coming here as tourists and help our national GDP.
( Bintan - Company owning the vessel , that loaded and became stricken in cyclonic conditions - did nought useful . Story even that the crew had gone onto the mainland , left the loaded ship during cyclone Oma - as they were celebrating Chinese New Year with the locals ? On land - not in command properly of the ship during the storm . )
Bintans ship shouldn’t have been loaded and Bauxite mining continued without even pause - throughout the entire oil spill disaster .
Thoroughly inadequate and inappropriate environmental rules or controls were set or respected .
The same minister - now the still Mines Minister - was the minister who issued the licence to companies inc Bintan I think - for the Rennel Is . Operations - several years ago .
This is Unbelievable , but true .
Axiom- must answer all questions- is asx listed . Strict and tight rules .
The Solomon Islands - please to get sorted out .
Unbelievably immoral and corrupt , clueless doesn’t describe behaviours and gross inaction and virtually no progress achieved by governments through the last 7 years , let alone in early 2000s after the terrible years .
Excuse use of the ‘should ‘ word - but definitely squandered money , and absolutely inept and lack of any true advances to generate good industries for the growing population for into the future . The country should now be in better standing than it is .
We have all got Mining to thank for our moderate economic health here in Oz .
Resources management Done well , is exciting and very interesting , possibilities open up for the regional people - really supporting Australia into a bright future .
The Solomons- could have been very visionary and prosperous by now .
Will they catch up their huge gap ? , still existing now compared to the rest of the world - I hope and pray so .
Meantime - huge numbers of locals- we have scheme of arrangements being established further to bring them here to work , earn $Aussie dollars and be looked after while here and gain qualifications and experience.
This is very good . Think is very appreciated .
It’s definitely not easy for anyone but everyone could be working far harder.
Canada , NZ , Japan , and other countries also assisting greatly the SI , although Australians give most significantly. We should help one another .
Will they help us if we need help in future generations - surely .
This is not entertainment. Newspapers are full of stories , as if is drama to discuss.
Poor axiom shareholders are workers too and been very whacked by the unreliability of the SI and people .
All the best to all .
* Axiom deserves to endure as it is , and the shareholders definitely finally win some , + the locals there deserve best from this all longterm . This is far from a funny saga , how corrupted and stalled from ethical mining the country has been. Huge detriment and shame for the people .
Been too many forum participants here with as you say you hear background info (?from brokers ) - that noone else knows. Been Chinese whispers , latent logging companies trying to not lose their incomes , old men wanting to wield influence and win but not thinking of their children and grandkids futures .
Too much self - interest of individuals - has been the long history here .
Hope 2019 will be major turning point for everyone involved - for the Solomon Islanders and AVQ .
