    Haha, shows how much you know about the regolith. I had a conference paper discussing regolith processes published so I know a bit. You must be an east coast geologist to say that. Trying really hard to find a flaw in my argument.

    Anything that's exposed to the elements is subject to weathering. That doesn't mean that there is a supergene enriched regolith present.

    Your argument would imply that there is supergene enrichment processes happening in my front lawn, but I live on a hill and if I dig half a metre I hit bedrock. Same story at Tres Estados. It's an erosional regime as evidenced by the huge boulders sticking out of the ground, much like the zones to the left and the right of the picture below. Most of the decomposed rock is washed away by the rain. At Tres Estados the only regolith is a thin layer of residual clays.

    You need a substantial thickness of weathered clays before any supergene enrichment processes can happen (like the centre of the pic). That's what supergene enrichment is. Leaching of a large thickness of weathered clays and subsequent concentration of the metals deposited near the the water table.
