there was a global stock market crash. the DOW was lowest in a decade? or just a few years, I forget. There was a major drop in price of the tech industry, and everything else followed due to negative sentiments. it's not expected to be a major crash because the tech industry has strong substance, and it was really a major correction that was long over due. also October is apparently known as the most volatile month in the year. so it was unavoidable.
