Is Buying and Selling driven by emotion ? I think so..
Fear is one emotion .. there's the fear of losing out and the fear of missing out.
Charts can be used to measure market emotions..
For example the VIX or Volatility index displays volatility/over time & as it rises so does the measurement of market volatility .. as it falls it displays decreases in volatility.
It is interesting when comparing the VIX to other major indices such as the DOW .. you should notice the movement in opposite directions.
