I don’t take kindly to some of the semi personal comments being made. My comments here can all be substantiated and in my opinion knowing more about what we invest in is crucial.
For those that want to know;
A little disclosure, my role in organosilane chemistry was to look at the development of a new molecule that incorporates a twin chain Didecyldimethylammonium chloride rather the single C18 chain ammonium chloride as utilised in the current formulations. They project stalled due to the extremely high cost of regulatory approvals for a new generation of organo silane.
The history story on the web is nice and perhaps the idea of using a silane coupling agent to bind an ammonium chloride biocide to a surface was discussed by somebody in Germany but from my understanding Dow developed and commercialised organo silane technology. If you look up the EPA registration you will see that the EPA registation was also issued to Dow.
Dow dropped the development and I cannot say why they dropped it but rumour has it that after the silane breast implant debacle they elected to cease development of all silanes.
Development was picked up by several other manufacturers.
Development centred around swapping out the organic solvents that carry the organo silane.
Developed of water stabilised solutions was picked up by an Ex-Dow chemist named William Peterson dec, see Mynano, Qore24. William Peterson patented the solutions in the USA but not outside the USA.
Today we see these solutions being used by quite a few RTU suppliers but in my opinion ZNO has the better marketing and sales network.
Two my knowledge, there are two manufacturers of the C18 organo silane in the USA that supply product to USA, Aust, NZ and EU. Interestingly only two manufacturers have BPR registration for the EU market and all RTU sellers in the EU need to purchase for either of these two companies (They all reference the same Cas No). Hence my believe that ZNO is purchasing from the same source as the other EU companies.
You can’t sell in the EU without BPR registration and ZNO are not listed on the BPR so they must be using one of these two companies, as do the other guys. The difference being marketing and sales channels.
