They are not (I did do a little geology at uni, but not beyond second year). I have spent a lot of time over the last few years learning about geology and mining in general. I have really enjoyed it. While I still have a lot to learn, I now can at least keep up in a conversation and understand what is going on most of the time.

I highly recommend learning about the field(s) of the companies you want to invest in. Otherwise you are just another clueless dill.
