For those that are new to Hemp as a potential commercial product.. See below a summary of the possibilities. I also note the first fund has been setup in the US to invest in Industrial Hemp.. Just the start..
Hemp has been around possibly since the dinosaurs, used for over 10,000 years, has 50,000 uses and industrial hemp is produced in over 30 countries today. Many analysts agree that hemp will become a better investment then marijuana. You can’t get high from hemp. It has less then 0.3% THC which is what is psychoactive.
34 states passed industrial hemp laws since the Farm Bill was passed in 2014. 2016 to 2017 saw an 250% increase in production from 16,000 acres to 40,000 acres.
Oregon, Tennessee and Vermont hemp producers more than tripled in 2017 while Minnesota, New York and North Dakota saw growth of 533%, 425% and 600% respectively.
Hemp Business Journal estimates the total retail value of all hemp products sold in the U.S. to be at least $688 million for 2016. We estimate the hemp industry will grow to $1.8 billion in sales by 2020, led by hemp food, body care, and CBD-based products. The data demonstrates the hemp industry is growing quickly at 22% five year CAGR and being led by food and body care products, with Hemp CBD products showing a 53% AGR,” said Sean Murphy, the Founder and Publisher of Hemp Business Journal. It’s safer to invest in then marijuana and has many uses.
Replacement for steel: One of Henry Ford’s first cars were made from Hemp. He was famous for using a sledgehammer to show that that the car would not dent. He also intended to use hemp fuel. (see our video.)
HEALTH: CBD is one of many compounds, known as cannabinoids, that are found in the cannabis plant. Researchers have been looking at the potential therapeutic uses of CBD. US CBD sales alone are projected to reach $2.1 billion by 2020.
A study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine found that CBD significantly reduced chronic inflammation and pain. CBD seems to reduce anxiety, pain, insomnia, and mood disorders. It has anti-seizure properties for people with epilepsy. It may help with schizophrenia.
Neurotherapeutics found that CBD may be a promising substance for people who abuse opioid.
CBD has been studied for its use as an anti-cancer agent. A review posted to the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology notes that CBD appears to block cancer cells from spreading around the body and invading an area entirely.
The review indicates that this compound tends to suppress the growth of cancer cells and promote the death of these cells.
Researchers point to studies showing that CBD may reduce anxiety behaviors in disorders such as:
post-traumatic stress disorder general anxiety disorder panic disorder social anxiety disorder obsessive-compulsive disorder Recent reports posted to Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation found that CBD may ease the inflammation in the pancreas in type 1 diabetes. This may be the first step in finding a CBD-based treatment for type 1 diabetes.
CBD could be a future treatment for acne vulgaris, the most common form of acne.
Initial research published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease reported that CBD could potentially prevent people in the early stages of Alzheimer’s from losing their ability to recognize the faces of people that they know.
Food: Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats and essential fatty acids. They are also a great protein source and contain high amounts of vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc.
Personal Care: High in essential fatty acids, Omega 6 and omega 3, hemp oil can be used to increase immunity, counteract aging skin and improve cardiovascular health. Hemp oil is a perfect body and cooking oil.
Plastics: Hemp Plastic is an affordable bio based natural fibrer composite to replace oil based raw materials. Europe and China have been using hemp plastic for years because it’s biodegradable, sustainable, recyclable, flame retardants and strong. Cars, Blenders, lamps, toys, phones, laptops, batteries are just a few of the uses.
Paper: THERE IS NO TREE OR PLANT SPECIES ON EARTH CAPABLE OF PRODUCING AS MUCH PAPER PER ACRE AS HEMP. It uses little water, cleans soil, doens’t need pesticides where cotton uses 24% of global insecticides.
Hemp paper is stronger than wood-based paper, and can withstand more folding. In general, hemp has strongest natural fiber of any source.
Hemp paper hundreds of years old (found in museums) has not yellowed, and is thus a high quality paper of archival quality. Textiles: Items ranging from rope, to fabrics, to industrial materials were made from hemp fiber. Hemp was often used to make sail canvas, and the word canvas derives from cannabis. Today, a modest hemp fabric industry exists, and hemp fibers can be used in clothing.
Construction Materials: Non-toxic • No off-gassing • No solvents • Mold resistance • High vapor permeability • Humidity control • Durable • Sustainable • Carbon sequestration • Fire and pest resistance • Passive self regulation of temperature and humidity • GREAT insulator A single residence can save 5,000-10,000 lbs of CO2 emissions using hempcrete instead of cement. Hempcrete is strong, lightweight, breathable, non-toxic, energy efficient and provides excellent insulation while being water and flame resistant. Hemp crops can be harvested annually in perpetuity. One acre of hemp provides as much paper as 4.1 acres of trees. Considering the trees take decades to grow and hemp takes about 4 months.
