An
"off screener" is someone who wants stock, but rather than put their bid up on market for the world to see, they sit back and
watch the buy and sell depth instead....
and wait.
The reason they do this is because they want anyone else looking at the spread to get the impression that there's as little demand around as possible. The hope is, that someone who is nervously holding stock and
thinking of selling, will see the thin bidding, get scared
and put their stock up for sale.
The buyer lurking and watching, then swoops in on the discounted offering and says 'thank you very much'....'I'll have your stock'
