That's a very good question. The answer almost certainly requires an understanding of the geochemistry of the ore zones. Since I'm not privy to this information, I don't know the answer to that question. I'm quite happy to present a number of hypotheses but that would probably bore everyone to death. However, I would argue that there would be no point in reverting back to alkaline chemistry since that has been proven to be a technical and economic failure. If you're interested in putting money into PEN, this is a question you should definitely be putting to PEN management.
It's either acid or alkaline chemistry - but there are numerous contender reagent suites for each. If acid chemistry is not economic there are no other ISR techniques available. It's unlikely to be economic to dig it up and process the ore in a conventional manner so Ross/Kendrick/Barber will become a stranded resource.
