And the other issue with trenches is you dont build them once. It is a continuous process - so aMN for example has to build 250km of trenches to begin operations and then in 5 - 8 years time has to build another 250km of trenches because the grade declines through recharge. Have a look at the KCl operation in China AMN quote in the presentation - still digging, diggind, digging 12 years after it commissioned its first trench. Expensive.
And the other issue with trenches is you dont build them once....
