The sp is just made up by small quantity of sell orders, not really accurate to judge the actual gain/lose at the moment. In fact, everyone here will be losing money if anyone sells all his holdings in one go with the current market depth.
My guess is that Lion actually helped generate this "New Year big sale", then he can have a better price to buy back in the short future. Lion wants more than what it has now, as he's the king among the animals.
