This is a great announcement and if they succeed in their ongoing negotiations for OT, then its a goer. I was seething when they originally decided to move the separation plant to Korea. Sanity has prevailed and they have removed sovereign risk. I spend a lot of time in Malaysia and LYC are really on the nose with the populace due to incessant bad publicity, by the media and politicians. Perhaps LYC may have a look at a JV or takeover of ARU. They have the experience of building and operating a plant and will have learned a lot. At current MC it would be a good buy for them. The resource is worth more than the MC and LYC would have an easier time getting finance. There will be new players in the market for rare earths as the push for more efficient electric drives ramps up. I use rare earth magnets for pump drives and having just returned from Indonesia, I can state quite safely that the demand for drives in pumps and other machinery is on an upward trajectory.
I am not yet convinced ARU won't be under Chinese control via the registry and financing options. I hope not but am keeping my powder dry for any changes in substantial holders.
