The biggest single cost in the beneficiation of magnetite is energy consumption. There is a balance between achieving the highest Fe/lowest impurities and the total cost.
Bear in mind that the variable in energy costs is the time taken to grind the material down to the optimal fraction, i.e. magnetite comes in different levels of hardness - the harder the magnetite the more expensive it is to grind. Also need to consider that the level of grinding will depend on the ability of the magnetite to respond to magnetic separation.
All very technical but at the end of the day, we only need to look at the final Fe level and the costs to get it to that grade.
