Gladstone sets sights on steel mill development
Queensland’s Port of Gladstone will build a new berth at Fisherman’s Landing if Australia’s first new steel mill in several decades goes ahead.
Late last month, the state government announced the first round of environmental assessments for the A$2.2B Boulder Steel project near Mt Larcom, which could begin construction by the end of 2010. The facility will be developed in two stages, with an estimated cost of A$1.1B for each. Stage 1 will see an initial export capacity of 2.1 mtpa, increasing to 5 mtpa in the second stage....
