I could be wrong and often am but it was my understanding that Industrial Hemp grown and used for food production that was shown in the QBL ANN was grown under a separate license to the one needed for medical research or use. Industrial Hemp can be processed for food and fibre under one license but the cannabinoids, terpines etc cannot legally be extracted from those same plants, a separate license is needed to do that. Also different cultivars are used. It is fortunate however that MCL has the knowledge on those cultivars. 22nd Dec ANN " MCL's
Technical
Director Andrew Kavasilas has a long history of growing and breeding Cannabis
cultivars under various
permits in Australia since 1999. Growing under permit in NSW, Mr
Kavasilas
recently grew
specially selected cultivars to determine cannabinoid variations,
cannabinoids of interest, as well as terpine and volatile determinations" https://www.odc.gov.au/medicinal-cannabis https://www.odc.gov.au/qa Will the scheme cover the use of medicinal cannabis for veterinary applications?
Any consideration of other applications is a matter for Government to consider. At this time, this is only for human therapeutic use. What effect will the medicinal cannabis scheme have on industrial hemp growers?
Industrial hemp growers who plan to grow a crop for medicinal purposes must do so under the medicinal cannabis scheme. This means that plants grown for medicinal purposes must be kept separate from those grown for other purposes. Under the Single Convention the same rules apply irrespective of the amount of THC or CBD in a plant Can I use the remainder of the cannabis plant for industrial purposes?
In line with the Narcotics Drug Act and the Single Convention, in order to effectively regulate and control the domestic cultivation of cannabis, 'mixed crops' will not be permitted. Cannabis grown for medicinal purposes will be restricted to that one purpose.
The benefit I see given that AEB will be researching veterinary products is that this appears to be a grey area at the moment
