Anyone ever thought that Coby would have consulted with either ST or Samsung already over a year ago before going for 28nm? He said that he have been talking to many companies and getting feedback on requirements. Then Weebit were dead set on 28nm. Samsung is familiar with Weebit's tech because they have asked Prof Tour back in 2010 about getting the voltage parameter down to their requirements as in this Video at 10:27 mark:
Seems to me that the 28nm cell is where the big money is and the one the fabs are interested in. An agreement could be in the form of IP licensing or revenue share. It doesn't really matter so long as there are willing customers the chip will be made. We can choose which fab we want to go with because of design flexibility.
The current dumpathon by the seeds could be seen as a curse or a blessing which ever way you choose to look at it. At 2.3c the mc is only $36 mil. Think about it.
The last time it was pushed down to 1.5c I bit my lip and loaded up. Seems to be at a level now where the risk/rewards are becoming too enticing to ignore.
