Don't they just cap the top 50-100m when they do this? I have thought for a while that the whole mining industry will change when robotics gets a little better and cheaper. The extra risks you can take on stopes, let alone being able to work through blasting, avoidance of ventilation, and even been able to work underwater in mines where flooding is an issue should mean a lot resources that are unviable now become viable.
The other one I have wondered about is in open cut pits. Imagine the cost savings if you could take on more risks with the pit walls.
