I for one expected this to happen. When Judith announced she was stumping up $100m to fund a journalism institute I figured she would need to sell some shares to do this. She's rich but I don't think she has $100m just sitting around under the couch cushion. Kerr clearly also wants to undertake his own philanthropy work (I mean, why else step down as CEO) so if Judith wants to do the trade you might as well both do the trade now.
If you think they were going to cling onto all their shares until death and not get a chance to is to pursue other interests you need you haven't been reading the news.
