LW, the Van redox battery storage capacity and longevity seem ideal IMO for micro-grids. Just not a scenario atm of individual batteries per each home (i.e. Powerwall 2 or ZCell to name a few offerings).
Instead, micro-grids setup within new housing estates at inception, all solar panels collectively feeding in for storage-reuse-load shifting, taking advantage of all that sunlight through the day whilst most people are working, so lower domestic consumption. WA is well advanced it seems so good news for RE companies in that state - the home of Protean also.
Despite the drawbacks with lithium, Musk and others appear miles ahead in terms of uptake of individual battery/solar systems including cost. Redflow (ZCell) is more expensive, but zinc-bromide has advantages over lithium options, lasting longer and maintaining the ability to storage energy for longer, according to what I have read.
Market is very dynamic and emerging so it is hard to predict.
Commercial applications I agree massive potential with major companies around the world investigating how they can create their own supply infrastructure and energy security.
