Think about it critically, why would the company buy back shares effectively pumping the price into their Victorian drill results? Maybe to get some more investor interest for a pump and dump.
But by doing a dividend off-market, (1) its a more capital efficient solution, (2) any share price gains from the Victorian drills are based on their own merits rather than share buybacks and (3) the gains from material results of drilling on EV are amplified by the lower cash balance.
It's intuitive if you look at it through an objective lense.
