I no longer hold LRS but do like to check the updates on the off chance there might be something happening but this is just another recycled low energy update.
Nice of them to mention that the UnCuyo results have been completed and were successful but failing to provide any data. Doing some quick news searches and we have this from an Argentinian newspaper on the 30th of December 2018;
The doctor (Mario Rodriguez) also highlighted the potential of the process for the region, since usable rocks have been discovered in San Luis, Córdoba, Catamarca and other western provinces. He also stressed that with the extractive process used, 10 times more material can be obtained than from salt flats. "The mineral obtained in the quarry with 2% lithium and concentrated by physical methods to 5 or 7%, approximately, which is how it is processed industrially, in the salt the concentration is only 0.2% or 0.5% ", added the expert. The benefit of high concentration is compounded by the fact that it is a system "totally friendly to the environment, as it does not leave environmental liabilities as other procedures," he says.
I'm not sure on the extent of LRS' involvement with the other patents they announced results for but will put in anyway.
While they are already celebrating the first international patent reached by the UnCuyo, from the laboratory that Rodríguez conducts, they have presented another two before the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). There they have 18 months to choose in which countries they wish to patent their system, after which they must make a determination. One of the innovations in that stage is a process of extracting lithium in rock similar to the original, only that via "dry". In this case the rock is milled, it is taken to an oven and, once this process is finished, it is ground again to reduce the solid, after which it is diluted with chemicals that allow pure lithium to be obtained.
The third patent under analysis in the PCT is a system that allows recovering lithium and cobalt from batteries considered "spent". "We did a laboratory test with 500 cell batteries to which we subjected a chemical process that allowed us to recover 95% of all its components ... plastic, steel, metal from the shell, aluminium, copper, coal, cobalt and lithium, "said Rodriguez. This project is under analysis now for a possible joint venture with the municipality of Godoy Cruz, which has a consolidated process for the collection of batteries and batteries. Knowledge of the UnCuyo laboratory could, eventually, be used to take all that material in disuse and instead of being processed for final disposal, to be subjected to a "recycling" process.
