I have been thinking about this strategy for some time.
They have the spare milling capacity to do that.
The only downside, if it is one, is that it depletes the ore body more quickly. Instead they could later blend the higher grade ore from the outlier areas with lower grade or further down and thereby improve the operating margins above what they would be. Also, perhaps the price of gold will head higher later on, so why mine out more than is needed? I dunno - just some thoughts.
