Did you check out the quartzite/ silicon metal market?

I've done my research and checked the numbers for OM Sarawak Phase 2 now that approval has been received from Sarawak Energy for another 100 MW of electricity.
OMH indicated more than one year ago of its intention to produce silicon metal. I think the last furnace to be fired up was planned for silicon metal but was fired up as FeSi which made sense at the time.
OMH will need the quartzite mine in Malaysia for reliable and cost effective supply for producing silicon metal, as the main ingredient is quartzite, as well as coke and wood chips.
100MW of power is enough for 4 furnaces producing silicon metal at the rate of 40 tonnes/furnace /day. (58,000 tonnes annually)

China accounts for 68% of world silicon metal production.
Silicon Metal = The main price of 553 grade in the current Chinese domestic market is CNY11,500 to CNY11,600 per ton and the same of 441 grade is CNY12,300 to CNY12,400 per ton, ( Ie US$1700 to US$1800/tonne)

The main cost of silicon metal is the power requirement of 13,000 KWh /tonne. The cost of power for a Chinese smelter would be US$900/tonne. OMH would be $450/tonne using the known cost of OM Sarawak power.

Silicon metal is a growth industry and its uses are many.
Specific Issues for Silicon

• Silicon metal is absolutely necessary to the production of aluminium and chemical products since it provides them with essential properties. A wide range of modern technologies depend on this material.
• Silicon metal cannot be substituted and there is no recycling of (pure) Silicon.
• The economic importance of Silicon has been demonstrated – in the aluminium and chemical sectors, but also as essential material in the electronics and solar industries, and a promising input in the battery application to increase energy storage capacity and hence battery duration. The absence of substitutes for the wide range of end-uses only increases the critical character of this material.
