By my reasoning, "...comparable to the previous financial year" is somewhat different in meaning to "...comparable with previous periods".

It begs the question of why they didn't just say what they really meant in the first place as it is, after all, the conventional way to communicate such a message.

As opposed to their unorthodox wording which did little other than create ambiguity.

Lesson is to not get the tea lady or the summer intern to be the past to proof read the official company announcements.
