Wow! Yes, I've seen video of those arc speakers somewhere. Most impressive.
I wholeheartedly agree with your conclusions. While MEMS tech is in its infancy, it is definitely an infant that has already learned to walk, and even to run. MEMS microphones, accelerometers, camera mechanisms, mirror collators, RF antennae, and a host of smart sensors for example are all well and truly standard fare in modern devices. I would go so far as to say that MEMS will take over from macro devices wherever that is a feasible possibility. The audio speaker is a perfect case in point and a perfect product to show how effective MEMS tech vs macro tech actually is. Why would anyone prefer a device that requires several kilos of expensively manufactured mass, occupies many litres of volume, and uses orders of magnitude more power, to do a job that can be done better by a few grams of active device in a minuscule space and with very low power requirements, and, for a fraction of the cost?
I look forward to sitting in the Barnet room of the Westin and seeing the startled faces of all those sceptics (some of whom post here) as they see and hear just how good the sound can be from an array of AudioPixels chips.
