My concern is that while all the necessary stakeholders consider the SIBS brakes to be superior to conventional brakes, there is still no evidence that the safety, emission and maintenance benefits outweigh the additional cost.
What will be interesting is the City of Perth tender where they indicate a preference for new vehicles fitted with the SIBS. I expect at least one of the interested parties will offer them vehicles both fitted and not fitted with SIBS. Then it will be up to a city council to determine whether rate-payers might meet the difference.
While I hope otherwise, I'm not that confident they will.
