Yep, you were close. Photo depicts one buoy and appears well out within the harbour as you say. Fitted with sensors to detect (presumably) changes in pitch/roll etc. + (my guess) work produced on the internal pistons/heat generated etc. so that energy output can be interpolated. Data transmitted remotely. More buoys deployed over the coming weeks.

Cant recall seeing any unit cost estimates or similarly costings for on-shore infrastructure, piped air hardware etc. Perhaps float and environment testing to begin with, then develop a strategy to increase output, add in other components over time. All JMO - and there may be some hardware restrictions due to port activities/licensing the space etc.

That said, I do like the harbour based testing as a location - with calmer waters in play than would be off-shore. Success in that environment would mean tapping into potential wave energy fields most other WEC's aren't suited too due to their scale. Shallower water, lower wave height, but still energy rich.

Interesting fact : there are over 680 listed beaches worldwide (that's not including any of the remote islands) and the aggregate length of just the top ten is over 600 miles.

So could you set up a few buoys + suitable battery storage device as source energy for on-shore charging stations for hand-held devices like phones and iPads.

Placed at say 1/4 mile spacing on the most popular beaches - that's about 5000 buoys in only a fraction of all the possible locations, and perhaps a means of showing the potential of micro-arrays aside from all the other uses the company wants to pursue. Plus you could deploy them to exploit summer use and the beach crowds as the seasons change - easy to move around after all. Just my musings - these tests will reveal more.
    Cheers BC
