Last new metal mine in France more than 20 years ago. No new exploration in thirty years. Major metals potential scarcely developed in a totally safe jurisdiction. Australia by contrast heavily explored since 1960's and under continuous exploration for 120 years or more.
Aside from Scandinavia, especially Sweden and Spain, Europe has received very little exploration funding since WW2.
In this sense then Europe is the new frontier of the 21st Century as apart from Antarctica it remains the most underexplored continent.
