Why? Are you suggesting that they KNEW what the result would be?

Much more likely they were clever (or fortunate) enough to make the correct assessment of the outcome. Not always wise to follow the money in these circumstances. Sometimes it can pay off, other times it leads to disaster. This time, well ...... But that is the risk one takes. People who followed that lead would probably be cheering now if the result was reversed.
