Shorting is not inherently bad. It is true that big players can push and pull the market, but it does not matter if they do it by going short or going long. It is this abuse of size, in combination with insider knowledge, how I understand unfair manipulation.
If shorts push the price much lower than your understanding of fair value, you should view it as a buying opportunity.
