Still waiting for that link to Edison predictions for either Dy or at least lithium carbonate I asked earlier, after all it was you that are suggesting we should rely on their DyO price predictions rather then Hallgarten one. Or did you looked them up and found they were way off the mark predicting lithium carbonate at $4500/t so now decided to look at demand/price trends instead ? LOL
Hmmm... there is no demand yet the State is buying large volumes simply to mothball it ?
If that was so why not just shut down the processing plants, ban the exports of Dy and use the mothballed supply for any local needs ?
That may very well work on your planet but here on Earth our Nd magnets begin to demagnetize as they get hot and suffer permanent loss at high temperatures which is why we throw some Dy in the mix to help them stay magnetize at higher temperatures.
Unless of course we could develop disposable EV powerpacks using only a Nd magnet and Li battery. Since it would have the Dy deleted we could name it Dy-No packs and have a small Li battery to drive them. To reduce costs we could have the summer version with a 25kg battery and the winter version with a larger 50kg battery since in cold weather it takes longer to permanently demagnetize the motor. When battery is almost discharged we could pull over in a servo and swap it for a brand new fully charged Dy-No pack in less time then it currently takes to fill a tank with petrol leaving the old powerpack behind for recycling. Yes, we would recycle and avoid building PDFs for our disposable Dy-No packs by dropping the powerpacks in a shredder, throwing some chook poo in the mix and give it a fancy name like PowerSoil before flogging it to farmers as magic soil conditioner. The lithium in the PowerSoil would calm down aggressive weeds in the field and help veggies with depressive disorders grow up big and strong. Now all we need are a few savvy investors willing to part with their money and a country willing to give us tax free exemptions to build the Dy-No plant. Any suggestions ?
Sure, but there is an even better chance it will go up to the $1500/kg post 2010.
But hey, if it makes you fell better about your own investment LYC and helps you sleep better at nigh then OK here it is - there is also a chance it could go down to $2/kg like CeO.
Happy now ?
