Insecurity ? Once NTU completes the plant it take the shine and glory of the other RE plant currently bragging that is the only producer outside China.
Not sure the Chinese would allow a major car maker to make a move on NTU unchallenged. As it stands they control the supply of Dy and to a large degree the supply of NdPr as well so if a major car maker wants EV motors built with Chinese RE they can build them in China. They may stock mountains of RE but if they are to lead the EV manufacturing in the future like they have been doing for the past few years they need every bit of it and more. If Trump can get away with US tarriffs on Chinese steel then what is to stop the Chinese putting tarrifs on RE exports to US ?
Anyway, Tesla & BMW are just the tip of the iceberg and I'm sure that other European and American car manufacturers already looking to make the move to China the same way the Japanese manufacturers moved their plants to Thailand 10 years ago.
