While the NST cheer squad continues with its weak arguments on the merits low ball buyout offer, the media continues to publish some apparently well informed insight.
"WestBusiness understands Mr Billis quoted Northern Star a figure of $300 million-plus for the 49 per cent holding when the gold miner acquired its 51 per cent stake in the asset from Barrick in 2014. Tribune and Rand have held their East Kundana stakes since the original joint venture was struck in 2002. It is believed the secretive Mr Billis has a similar figure in mind now.
The latest developments represent an apparent stalemate in negotiations over East Kundana and a further souring of relations between Northern Star and Mr Billis.
However, WestBusiness understands there has been interest in Tribune and Rand from third parties at a corporate level, which potentially could break the deadlock over East Kundana."
