The sentence, “NRW will utilise its existing civil construction fleet for the project.” is pure music . The contract is likely to be profitable, because I imagine some of he fleet to be used is fully depreciated (impaired, perhaps in the dark days of yesteryear). Some of the profit will be reduced by the 30% tax, but the contra credit will be to the tax-loss asset, so the FY19 cash-flow will not be impacted.
In another thread, Sabine mentioned a thrifty NWH and recycled dongers. I will not dwell on the merits of that delicate subject, other than to suggest that if they can be obtained in bulk, the crocodile farms in Wyndham could use them to supplement the chicken heads that they import. Using unused dongas makes good sense. “Donga” is often spelled “Dongha” in South Africa to emphasise that the “g” is pronounced to give “dong-ga” – a word though to originally mean a dry gully in South Africa, and later used to mean a trench too, and still later to mean a temporary shelter by Australian “diggers” in WW1, which sounds like plausible etymology to me. An Australian tradesman once referred to a creek in my backyard as a donga, which is the only time I have heard the word used thus in Australia.
I do not know if the value of the deal could be used to extrapolate what the Koodaideri railway might be. The much longer Ray Hill rail job was originally stated to be $620M. About $200M is my stab-in-the-dark number.
Good luck for 1919. A New Year's resolution to write more on FA than TA in this NWH subforum would please me, because for my taste, the balance has swung too far towards TA posts.
