The 51 million is the total number being asked for, perhaps 31 million in the amount going to the BOD in already specified amounts. The other 20 mill to be handed out to employees and contractors if/when seen fit by the BOD?. Our South African geo might be in line to get quite a few of those - and I won't complain if he gets a bunch after finding another good deposit.
I've learned recently about vesting on takeovers etc by the debacle at BGS where they seem to have decided to put a paltry offer to shareholders for their deposit soon after inserting a vesting clause on a sale of said deposit. That has not gone down well at all and was seen by many holders imo as putting their own interests before the shareholders.
I'm very much from the school of 'why do we keep paying execs twice for doing their job?'. Sure if their performance was truly exceptional and resulted in us all making a huge amount - but so many performance rights seem to me to be handed out for just turning up to work. Interesting you say "you can't make the drill hit copper". Fair enough. But when it does hit I don't think you should hand out generous bonuses to the whole BOD for then just doing their jobs with the results.
