Just bot sales. Bots dont think about the real world fundums or analyse news, they play numbers. If a stock is thin, they can either drop it or pay up on no volume. This may even be done to attract another bot. Ive seen stocks make 10% moves on tiny bot sales and the ASX does nothing. We can't do that since compliance in a broking house wont let you. The funds using bots can play the market and its been questionable for years outside the ASX 300 imo. Not sure about this? Even the ASX have banned dozens of bots for this very reason. Michael Lewis wrote a book about it and it caused a flash crash in the US market some time back. Dont expect any changes with the regulators since the funds do the volume.
If you use a decent broker, you can plug into a bot at times but they are limited in function.
Bots can do what ever they like in the big end, as the volume is large enough not to matter that much. Keep them out of the low volume stocks.
Buffett use to say that futures were weapons of mass destruction, but i reckon its bots. We will find out the hard way one day.
