In the States if you get a starter motor for a pick up its often a reconditioned unit as are re-honed master brake cylinders, I have bought them with no qualms in the past.
essentially the casting does not detoriate just the internals which can be replaced, ie piston cups pistons and o rings.
Even the crown and pinion gears in the diff are castings lthough they would need to be checked for back lash before re-selling
