@Teringie. The article is largely a reworking of the ann. from 14 Sept.. There is useful info about this and other issues on the Sensera and Nanotron websites.
Swarmbee LE (Low Energy) transceivers using CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) operate over 10-500m with +/- 1m accuracy. Swarmbee ER (Enhanced Resolution) transceivers using UWB (Ultra WideBand) frequencies are accurate to 10cm (over 0-20m). NanoLOC chips can use either or both LE and ER systems, seemlessly integrated with an API and related software. Anchors are required for both systems. Nanotron's patent estate covers most aspects of these techniques (and the DecaWave partnership fills the gaps, see ann. from 10 July 2018). Read more about the way this ecosystem works on the Nanotron website.
I haven't done a whole lot of research on comparable systems, but have a look at my post compare Smartbow/Sensera eartags with another market leader in animal health, Allflex. It's also worth noting that Nanotron received the Geo IoT World award in June this year for their location awareness tech., with the judges noting that "Nanotron’s swarm bee modules are the first and only common platform for both UWB and Chirp technologies...". I'd say were at the leading the field. AIMO. GLTAH R-7
