As I said, you believed you were correct with your buy in during the period shown in your image, but the market disagreed. Was the timing terrible only for Gary? I'd say your timing was just as bad by the looks of it.

The last raise was completed at a big premium to todays price... so technically it could also be claimed that Gary pulled the trigger before the share price dropped and that the timing was good? Depends what you blame for the subsequent drop really.
