Tasmanian Government taps MyNetFone for VoIP services

    By Stuart Corner
The Tasmanian Government has selected VoIP service provider MyNetFone (ASX: MNF) to supply VoIP telephony services for three years, with the possibility of extensions up to ten years. The deal is expected to be worth up to $20m over the full 10 year term.

MyNetFone said it would invest in additional infrastructure in Tasmania to support the Government contract and to handle additional opportunities in the state. "The inclusion of the infrastructure investment is expected to result in an earning accretive outcome in the first year of service," the company said.

This infrastructure will be deployed through the group's wholly-owned VolP carrier, Symbio Networks and will include a redundant carrier grade voice switching network with diverse IP connections to the mainland for connectivity to the rest of the Australian and global PSTN.

The company said: "The deployment by Symbio's engineering team will utilise the company's proprietary intellectual property including Australian-developed software such as SONAR OSS/BSS, global call routing and management software, and Symbio's unique local number porting systems."

MyNetFone added that Symbio was "also looking to make the investment in NBN services in Tasmania later this year, which will give smaller providers who do not have the capability to become a direct NBN Co reseller, cost effective access to this future growth market. "

It said that the Government VolP services would be supported by the MyNetFone Enterprise SIP Trunking system, "a fully-featured, next generation digital trunk service," that would "allow the Tasmanian Government to extend communication over IP to employees in all offices, regardless of whether they are located on a main site, at branch offices or even if working remotely."

TMD general manager, Piero Peroni, said: "MyNetFone is a young, energetic, innovative company which has proven it is capable to develop services that meet the Government's requirements. This agreement will not only put the Government in a great position to meet the evolving needs of our communities, but will also contribute to the growth and diversity of the local industry with MyNetFone's expanded operations and commitment to the state. We are looking forward to a long and successful partnership with them."
