Not sure you have taken the point or if you understand it.  Especially looking at your example.  This is because BHP, RIO etc all have something in common - they all make profits .... MASSIVE Profits !!   Yes they have debt, and costs but this is Exceeded by their Revenue.  This is an extremely fundamental but critical point.  

Any business, be it a miner, a factory, an employment Company, and yes even a Fish and Chip shop All need to be profitable ... no mining or O & G Company (or ANY Company) can be successful if they are not profitable.  Simple !
